Her Simple Reset for More Time, Energy, and Happiness

I’m not a video (or podcast) person. If someone sends me a video or podcast episode and tells me I have to watch or listen to it, I might…eventually. But if I have the choice? I’d much rather read an article. I like being able to skim, take in the key points quickly, and move on.

So when I do take the time to watch a video (especially a long one) you know it must be good.

A few weeks ago, I read Mel Robbins’ latest book, “The Let Them Theory: A Life-Changing Tool That Millions of People Can’t Stop Talking About“, and really enjoyed it. So much so that I’ve been making an effort to apply it in my everyday life.

This morning, I somehow came across one of her podcasts titled “The 7-Day Reset for More Time, Energy, & Happiness (Backed by Science).” Here it is if you want to watch it (and I recommend you do.)

That title checked all my boxes. More time? More energy? More happiness? Yes, please. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t want those things.

The 7-Day Reset: What I’m Already Doing

As I listened, I was happy to realize that I already do a few of the things she recommends:

  • Exercise: Over the past few weeks I’ve been more diligent about exercising. My goal is 4 mornings a week. I know I feel better when I exercise, it’s a matter of getting myself to go to bed early enough the night before so I get enough sleep to wake up earlier.

  • Making time for myself: I love to read, and I make sure to carve out time for it.

  • Connecting with friends and family: This one is huge. I know that a quick text or call can make a big difference in my mood…but I’m not one who usually picks up the phone. I know I have to get better about that. But I will send a quick text to people multiple times per week.

  • Meal planning… kind of: I want to meal plan. In fact EVERY single week I tell my husband we have to figure out what we’re going to eat the next week before we go food shopping. Then before I know it, it’s time to go food shopping and we haven’t thought of anything. Sometimes at that point we’ll come up with a meal or two, but rarely for the whole week. I know I’m not good at this. But when I don’t meal plan, I regret it…especially around 6 p.m. when I realize I have no idea what’s for dinner. I am going to try a lot harder to be better about this.

The One Thing I’m Adding Today

One of the suggestions that stood out to me was doing a brain dump. I know how helpful brain dumps can be. Getting everything out of my head and onto paper always makes me feel lighter and more in control. And yet? I can’t remember the last time I actually did one.

That changes today. This afternoon, I’m sitting down and doing a brain dump. No overthinking. Just writing down everything on my mind, big or small.

My Takeaway

If you’re looking for simple, science-backed ways to feel better and be more productive, I highly recommend checking out this podcast episode. Even if you don’t do everything, picking just one or two small changes, like a brain dump or meal planning can make a big difference.

I’m committing to trying the brain dump today and putting more effort into meal planning. What about you? Let me know if you give it a listen or try any of the tips!
